From Fresh to Everlasting: How to Dry Your Skywyld Blooms

There’s nothing like fresh, field-grown flowers on the counter. But when their fresh vase life ends, your stems don't have to go into the compost! With a few simple steps, you can turn your fresh flowers into dried, everlasting arrangements to display around your home all year long.

Here is our quick, field-tested guide to drying your stems:

1. Size Your Bundles Right

• Farmers Market Bouquets (Compact): Hang the entire bouquet upside down just as it is!

• CSA Subscription Bouquets (Extra Big): Split your bouquet into three separate bundles. Splitting larger bouquets ensures good airflow so stems dry evenly without trapping moisture.

  
  

2. Strip & Hang

Strip off any lower leaves, secure the stems tightly with a rubber band, and hang them upside down in a dim to dark, dry, well-ventilated space (like a shaded carport, garage, spare closet, or pantry) for 2 to 3 weeks. Indirect light is key to keeping those colors vibrant!

3. Display & Enjoy

Once dry to the touch, place them in bud vases on bookshelves, arrange them on a mantel, or keep them tied for a rustic wall hanging.

Pro-Tip: Sunflowers, statice, strawflower, gomphrena, celosia, and eucalyptus dry exceptionally well and hold their rich color for months or years if you care for them properly.

We are fully focused on our subscription members for the rest of the season, but you can catch us in person at the Cottonwood Certified Farmers Market on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of September and October!

Note on September Markets: All September market dates are weather permitting. If Northern California hits us with extreme heat, we will stay on the farm to keep our blooms—and ourselves—safe!
